Expert Deck construction in Peoria, AZ

Deck construction in Peoria comes with real climate demands. Arizona's intense UV exposure can degrade and bleach unprotected wood rapidly, and summer surface temperatures can climb well beyond what bare feet can handle. At Modern Design Construction, we plan every deck around those realities. We cover the full scope: structural framing, decking surface, railings, and stairs, all sized and detailed to fit your home's layout. We serve homeowners across Peoria, Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Sun City, Sun City West, Sun City Grande, Tempe, Avondale, Waddell, Litchfield Park, Laveen, Anthem, and Buckeye. Many West Valley lots also sit above expansive caliche soils, which can require wider or deeper footings than a standard build. We account for that during planning so your deck stays level and stable season after season. Our owner's approach is straightforward: start the project, see it through, and hand you a finished outdoor space you can actually use. Call us to talk through your deck plans.

What's included

A properly built deck adds usable outdoor living space to your home without altering your interior footprint.
Material selection matched to Peoria's UV intensity reduces fading, warping, and surface heat buildup over time.
Structural framing sized for West Valley soil conditions keeps your deck level and stable through monsoon season.
Railings and stairs built to code protect your family and reduce liability on elevated or pool-adjacent decks.
A finished deck increases your home's functional square footage, which supports resale value in the Phoenix metro market.
Working with one builder from design through final inspection keeps communication clear and the project on track.

FAQ

Deck construction FAQ

Common questions about deck construction in Peoria, AZ.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in Peoria, AZ?

Yes, most deck construction in Peoria requires a city building permit. Modern Design Construction handles the coordination so you stay compliant from the start.

What decking materials hold up best in the Peoria heat?

Light-colored composite decking performs well in Peoria because it resists UV degradation and stays cooler underfoot than dark-colored boards. We discuss material options with you based on your budget, use case, and sun exposure.

Can you build a deck around my pool in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley?

Yes, we build pool-adjacent decks across Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and the surrounding area. Pool deck builds include proper barrier heights and surface materials suited to wet conditions.

Will my HOA in Sun City or Anthem affect the deck design?

HOA covenants in communities like Sun City and Anthem often govern deck size, materials, and finishes. We review those requirements before finalizing your design so there are no surprises after construction.

Do you build decks in Buckeye, Avondale, and other West Valley cities?

Yes, Modern Design Construction serves homeowners across Buckeye, Avondale, Waddell, Litchfield Park, Laveen, and the broader West Valley. Each build accounts for local soil and drainage conditions common to desert lots.

What does the deck construction process look like with Modern Design Construction?

We start with a site review and design discussion, then move through framing, surface installation, railings, and stairs to a finished deck. Our owner stays involved from the first day of work through project completion.

After living in this house for over 20 yrs our kitchen needed to be brighter and more modern looking. Derek and his crew did an excellent job installing new counters, backsplash, and all the other upgrades we had envisioned. Great communication, prompt service and cleanup. We wouldn’t hesitate to contract with Modern Design Construction again for future remodeling!

Derek did a complete gut and reconstruction of our kitchen and breakfast nook and we couldn’t be happier with the final results. He helped take our nice track home kitchen and make it custom home worthy! Derek expanded our island giving us more room for appliances and entertaining, added brand new cabinets that were extended up to the ceiling. We also added a whole new row of cabinets in our breakfast nook. To tie the whole project together, he updated our fireplace and added a matching mantle. The results speak for itself and he did an amazing job!

I finally have my dream kitchen. I initially wanted just my peeling cabinets replaced. Derek from Modern Design Construction LLC sent a picture of an updated much roomier kitchen. From start to finish, the hardest thing I had to do was pick out colors, flooring, knobs, a faucet and stay out of the way. The plumber, electrician, painter and flooring people all did exceptionally work. I highly recommended Modern Design Construction LLC. I am very pleased with my new kitchen.

We highly recommend Derek for your next remodel project. Our project included a major Kitchen redesign, as well as tile and cabinetry in two Bathrooms. From our very first meeting with Derek, he brought creative design ideas to help us reimagine our our spaces to achieve the bright and open concept we were looking for. This was a large project requiring multiple trades which Derek sourced and managed. It all went very smoothly and through each step, Derek worked closely with us to ensure every small detail met our expectations. His suggestions for tweaks here and there resulted in not only beautiful ascetics but, the best possible function as well. Thank you for everything Derek; you are a fabulous craftsman and a great guy! — Lisa Rae & Tom

Derek is very professional and quickly responded to my issues with the plumbing install. I would definitely recommend his company.
